Over 22 certificates of authorization and a permit issued by the Ministry of Sustainable Development.

RSI Environmental, located in Saint-Ambroise, serves clients throughout Quebec, Ontario and the United States. It holds more than 22 certificates of authorization and a permit issued by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change (MDDELCC). The certificates of authorization are valid as long as the company respects the environmental monitoring, testing and requirements of the MDDELCC whereas the permit is renewable every five years.

More importantly, these certificates of authorization allow RSI Environmental to effectively treat all organic contaminants such as: petroleum hydrocarbons, PCBs, PAHs, chlorophenols, pesticides, dioxins and furans, chlorinated VOCs, PFOS, etc., as well as wastewater. With this permit, RSI Environmental is able to receive and recycle residual or granular hazardous materials particularly oil residue and granular material contaminated with, for example, PCBs. The MDDELCC regularly inspects the facility and its operations of environmental cleaning in addition to the weekly reports of all operational data of the treatment center.

Certificates of autorization and permits

RSI Environmental also submits an annual report to MDDELCC specifically outlining a registry of all materials received and treated, the operational parameters, continuous stack emissions, and the traceability of the soil before, during and after undergoing environmental cleaning and treatment. The company is required to perform and pass annual compliance testing of its equipment to ensure the safety of its employees and the environment.

RSI Environment maintains a very strict environmental monitoring procedure. In fact, the majority of the emissions standards present in the Clean Air Regulations were based on the results of RSI Environmental’s treatment centre in Saint-Ambroise. The facility is equipped with an emissions monitoring system which detects and records the concentration of the following elements: NOx, CO, CO2, SO2, HCl, O2 and particulate matter. The automatic shutdown of the process supply ensures that it is controlled safely.

Normally, external sampling firms verify the integrity of groundwater from piezometers at the facility’s perimeter to ambient air by sampling 400 meters in the direction of prevailing winds. Surficial soil samples are also collected in the area surrounding the treatment centre.

RSI Environmental complies with environmental regulations, and is also one of the only soil treatment and environmental cleaning centres in North America to have the ISO 14001 certification. Having this certification allows the company to continually improve its equipment and processes to help the environment.

The facility is also monitored by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to ensure the safety of the soil coming from outside of Canada. RSI Environmental is certified by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), and is regularly audited by clients or competitors who require the specialized services offered.

RSI Environmental has an active health and safety committee to minimize the risk of accidents for workers and suppliers, as well as an emergency procedure that is updated each year.
